I cringed at your story about the teacher. I taught college and creative writing for 20+ years, and hundreds of students told me they were “bad writers.” They got that impression from their teachers, and sadly, I’m sure I gave that impression to some of my students early in my career, but I tried to make up fo it later.

On another note, I’m wondering if Ms. Henson’s statement had anything to do with our culture’s ongoing threats to African-American people.
