I did some grass roots organizing with Indivisible during this election cycle. Their leaders obviously couldn’t have read your piece, but they were on board with the “outreach” piece, sending volunteers to (from what I saw) only solidly Black neighborhoods to get out the Dem vote. After a while, this made me uncomfortable. Most of the volunteers were white. I couldn’t help thinking that white neighborhoods should be targeted, too. But canvassing people who hadn’t registered already as Democrats was considered unsafe.

My own neighborhood, middle class and ethnically mixed, had no canvassing at all. We had yard signs for all major candidates. People change their minds. I’m not giving up on white women yet.
