I’ve had many family members incarcerated for stupid things they did in service of their addictions, or at the behest of inner demons. Thankfully, they’ve never killed anyone. What I appreciate most about your story is the specificity — all the things you saw and felt and did and thought. From the comments, I see that it was a successful strategy for engendering compassion, not just for you, but for others in similar situations. Readers are seeing you as a real person who deserves attention. And that’s how we all should always see others. Thanks for spreading the love.
