Megan, please consult a dictionary or an etymology source before making sweeping linguistic pronouncements. The term childfree was coined in the 1970’s as a positive alternative to childless, with its connotations of loss and less-than. It was a feminist adventure in language that, happily, survived the conservative backlash.

I know this not only because I’m 62 and lived it, but because I know how to do research, which anyone can now do thanks to the internet. Childfree has never gone out of use since the 1970’s, and one source tells me its first documented use was in 1901.
