The pleasure of re-reading a favorite novel is one of the sweetest rewards of aging. And few activities tell us so much about how we’ve changed, and how we’ve stayed the same.

But re-reading can be a guilty pleasure; so many books are waiting to be read, it seems sacrilegious (if books are your religion) to spend time on one that’s already been read.

Like most of my guilty pleasures, though, I’ve excused it. Life is short. Taste the sweet.
