So you don’t think it’s entirely fair, but you also worry about possibly doing something we will condemn, about possibly being interrogated, about possibly being shamed, about possibly losing your job or being passed over for a promotion. We get it. We’ve been in those scary positions for millenia.
You aren’t like those other men, but have you ever been snarky to a woman in the classroom or workplace so that you or other men might feel the good feels or otherwise benefit? Have you ever come on to a woman too insistently?
Yes or no, the good news is women still love you. You had a mother, perhaps still do, perhaps a daughter, a sister, a girlfriend, a wife, a friend.
And all these women love you and support you even though other men have visited oppression and contempt upon women for millennia. Even though you, personally, have secured privileges to yourself as a result. Have you been unaware of how the patriarchy supports you?
Women still love you. Even though other men have institutionalized and validated rapes and other violence against us for millennia. Even though you, personally, don’t have to think twice about going for a walk by yourself or showering naked in your fenced-in backyard.
Even though other men have commodified women and devalued women so that our work is less valuable than yours. Even though you, personally…
